Visit the Sri Maha Bodhi, the oldest living human-planted tree in the world, grown from a sapling of the original Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. Explore the ancient stupas including Ruwanwelisaya, Jetavanaramaya (once the third tallest structure in the ancient world), and Abhayagiri Dagaba. Marvel at the Samadhi Buddha statue, the twin ponds (Kuttam Pokuna), and the Isurumuniya rock temple with its famous stone carvings. After breakfast, depart Trincomalee and travel to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka's second capital (11th-13th century AD) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This remarkable medieval city is renowned for its well-preserved ruins, advanced irrigation systems, and extraordinary stone carvings. Visit the Royal Palace complex, the Audience Hall with its stone lions, and the Sacred Quadrangle housing the Vatadage (a circular relic house considered one of the finest architectural achievements of ancient Sri Lanka). Admire the colossal rock-carved Buddha statues at Gal Vihara, including the magnificent 14-metre reclining Buddha, the standing Buddha, and the seated figures, all carved from a single granite rock face. Route: Sigiriya <-> Dambulla (approx. 25 km, 45 min)
This is one of the most spectacular days of your tour. Early morning, visit the legendary Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and often called the Eighth Wonder of the Ancient World. Rising 200 metres from the jungle floor, this dramatic flat-topped volcanic rock was transformed into a royal citadel by King Kashyapa in the 5th century AD. Climb the approximately 1,200 steps through the ancient water gardens, boulder gardens, and the famous fresco gallery featuring the enchanting Sigiriya maidens (Apsaras). The Mirror Wall, once polished so the king could see his reflection, still bears ancient graffiti and poetry inscribed by visitors over 1,500 years ago. At the summit, explore the ruins of the palace, the throne, and the royal swimming pool, all while enjoying 360-degree panoramic views of the surrounding lush green landscape. In the afternoon, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, housing the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Carved into a massive rock outcrop, the five caves contain over 150 Buddha statues and magnificent ceiling paintings spanning an area of over 2,100 square metres, some dating back to the 1st century BC. The colours of these paintings remain remarkably vivid despite being over 2,000 years old. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Learn about the cultivation, processing, and traditional medicinal uses of these aromatic plants. You will have the opportunity to see how spices are grown, dried, and prepared for export, and can purchase high-quality spices and essential oils at reasonable prices. Route: Ella -> Buduruwagala -> Udawalawa (approx. 140 km, 3.5 hrs)
After breakfast, descend from the cool hill country into the dry zone lowlands as you travel towards Udawalawa. En route, visit the ancient Buddhist rock carvings at Buduruwagala, one of the most significant archaeological sites in southern Sri Lanka. The name Buduruwagala means 'the rock of Buddhist sculptures' in Sinhala, and the site features seven magnificent colossal figures carved into a massive rock face, the largest standing 15 metres tall. The central figure is believed to be a depiction of the Dipankara Buddha, flanked by bodhisattvas and other figures. The site is set in a peaceful, dry forest landscape and receives relatively few visitors, making it an intimate and atmospheric stop. Continue to Udawalawa National Park, one of the best places in Sri Lanka for elephant sightings. Dinner and overnight at your hotel near Udawalawa. Tipping is a customary and appreciated practice in Sri Lanka's tourism industry. While tips are never compulsory, they serve as a meaningful way to recognise the hard work and dedication of the professionals who make your journey memorable. Your National Guide and driver work tirelessly from early morning until late evening, often going well beyond their basic duties to ensure your comfort, safety, and enjoyment throughout the tour. We suggest a voluntary daily tip kitty of USD 3 per person per day (i.e., USD 18 per day from the group of 6 travellers). Over the 14-day tour, this would accumulate to a total tip pool of USD 252. This tip kitty is intended to be shared between your National Guide (50%), Driver (30%), and any assistant staff (20%). The guide will typically manage the collection and fair distribution of the tip kitty. This suggested amount is entirely voluntary and may be adjusted based on your satisfaction with the service provided. If you feel the service exceeded your expectations, you are welcome to give more; similarly, if you have concerns, you may adjust accordingly. The tip kitty is a collective contribution, and individual travellers may also choose to give additional personal tips at their discretion at the end of the tour.

1. Peak Season Rates: All prices quoted are based on peak season (Christmas/New Year) hotel rates, which represent the highest price bracket of the year. Early booking is strongly recommended as premium hotels in Sri Lanka sell out quickly for this period. Final hotel confirmations and exact rates will be provided upon booking.
2. Weather Contingency: The Udawalawa/Yala segment of the itinerary is weather-dependent. Udawalawa National Park remains accessible during heavy rain, while Yala National Park may close due to flooding. The final decision will be made closer to the travel date based on weather forecasts and park conditions. If Yala is selected, the route via Tissamaharama and Buduruwagala will be followed.
3. Hotel Categories: Two hotel category options are available: (A) Premium 4-star and 5-star hotels throughout, and (B) a mix of 4-star/5-star hotels at key destinations with well-located 3-star properties at other stops. Both options provide comfortable, clean, and well-serviced accommodation. Specific hotel names will be confirmed upon booking.
4. Room Configuration: The tour is priced based on twin-share occupancy (3 twin rooms for 6 adults). Single room supplements are available on request at an additional cost.
5. Currency and Payments: All prices are quoted in United States Dollars (USD). Payments can be made via bank transfer or as agreed with your booking agent. The exchange rate used for local cost calculations is approximately 1 USD = LKR 322-325.
6. Entrance Fees: All entrance fees are quoted with a built-in margin to accommodate potential price increases by the Sri Lankan authorities prior to the travel date. Actual fees charged may differ from estimates.
7. Safari Jeep Costs: One afternoon jeep safari at Udawalawa National Park is included in the base price. Additional safari drives, night safaris, or safaris at other parks (e.g., Yala, Minneriya) are available at extra cost and can be arranged on request.
